Armed Forces Theme for the Army/Navy/Military Baby Shower

June 26th, 2010

One great idea for a couples baby shower, especially if one or both are in the armed forces, is to have an army, navy, marines, or air force theme. Think of the how many games one can think of to make this a fun shower as well as the great food that could be planned out for the finest.

How about invitations with a militaristic spy theme of invisible inks which need to have a special light to be read, or at the least, a camouflaged invitation that needs to be carefully studied before the details of the event could be read! Even if one were not in the military, the intrigue of the invitation will already spark the interest of the recipients and would make them anticipate a well planned out shower party. Another idea is to make the invitation not an invitation at all but made to look like military orders for those who are invited. Surprise the attendees as well as the expectant couple.

Those in the know will have to decorate the halls with whatever military paraphernalia that are left lying all over the place, or if not in a military base, why not make it look like a recruitment center, complete with registration and hosts in military attire.

A great theme would be a Great War Room of like those in the movies about World War II. It would set not only a theme but a period baby shower as well that could be exciting especially when the guests are met with period military costumes to choose from. Thinking of balloons and flowers has no place for this type of party.

How about a military dance shower party if the mother to be really wants them? Set up a stage with a band or if this is impossible, a great sound system that could blare songs of choice with the streamers and balloons all over the place to add fun and excitement during the dance or games.

One wall could be filled with posters of Uncle Sam or the Commander in Chief, another would be a great set up for a huge flag of the country, and how about a wall of pictures of the expectant couple and their friends who are also invited at the party?

Instead of a buffet table, set up instead a mess table similar to those in mess halls. This way, everyone could enjoy the fun together without having to go in individual groups. Plan out food with the expectant couple and see to it that their tastes are reflected in the food. Ice cream could be served in an indoor party such as this and wouldn’t it be fun if the cold delight has a military color to it too – pistachio green, chocolate, nuts and marshmallows as well as the light colors of vanilla and mango. Yum!

If you want to make the cake yourself, take it easy and think of a simple yet authentic design like a tank or the flag. What about a large flat cake with the insignia of the division which one or both belong to?

For games, well there is the usual trivial pursuit games type with military questions as the main focus. Think also of having a live Game of the Generals game where the participants are the different pieces and they will only respond to a group assigned to make them go their right places. The whole group could be made to play this with great fun, noise, and strategy.

For the military baby shower favors, a kit complete with simple pens and flashlights should do the trick. If that is too boring, why not have a kit of simple notebooks and pens with chocolates and individually wrapped brownies.
