All mommies need all the diapers for their newborn babies. These diapers can be expensive for a budget conscious couple and it is a perfect gift to give them on a baby shower party thrown for them.
Giving disposable diapers in a box is a little lame, however, so it would be a nice gesture on your part to give the diapers in an unusual way: diaper bear. No, there is no sewing involved, it is just a manner of folding the diapers and binding them with elastic bands and made to look like a bear. Well made bears are a pity to dismantle, but that is the purpose of the gift, to use when the baby arrives.
Get a pack or two of medium sized disposable diapers, a roll of ribbons about three inches in width, double sided tape, rubber bands, pacifier, googly doll eyes, bib, rattler, teether and a baby cap.
Unpack the diapers and open them lengthwise without disturbing the wings or the tapes. Roll up the diaper outside in, continue till complete, place in another diaper and roll. Continue doing this until you get the desired plumpness of the bear’s body. Make a smaller one for the head of the bear. Secure with rubber bands to prevent from opening. Place an edge of the ribbon on the rolls with a double sided tape. Roll the ribbon around each then secure the ends with the double sided tape again.
Make eight of these rolls: 1 head, 1 body, 2 arms, 2 legs and 2 ears. Connect the pieces to form a bear with the help of double sided tape on the ribbon, not on the diaper itself as this will tear the delicate material.
Decorate the bear with the items at hand. Place the bib, the cap and the pacifier. Tape the googly eyes on the ‘face.’ Use a small rolled sock for the hose. It is much like decorating a snowman, so use your imagination, it is not hard.
Give the diaper bear to the mother-to-be complete with a bunch of balloons. Or, place it at the table with the other gifts. This could also be made into a giant bear as the centerpiece on the buffet table.
If the disposable diaper bear is not to your liking, this can also be done using cloth diapers, another practical and much needed gift for the new baby.
There are so many ways that a diaper baby can be accented if this is a group of friends’ efforts. Why not wrap a baby shawl around its shoulders, make it hold a handheld bouquet made of washcloth or socks, or even a wreath of layette essentials.
A baby shower calls for practical gifts and they need not be expensive. Giving diapers, towels, layette or other essentials will not come out lame if they are gaily wrapped as bears, bouquets or wreaths.
