Most of the men and women of today who have children are also career oriented people and spend the most part of the day in the company of co-workers. Some of the couples are also co-workers and if they get pregnant, then the office will find the opportunity to welcome their new child.
Baby showers can be thrown by the co-workers themselves especially if the others feel like part of the family, as most workers do. There is no need to invite anyone, anyone can come in and celebrate and bring gifts to the new mommy, even if some come in from other offices on the floor or in the building.
The best way to hold a successful work baby shower, the first step is to ask the management if it could be celebrated in the office itself, as long as it does not interfere with the work hours. Most of the showers are held after office hours or during lunch break. It would also be a good idea to inform the janitorial services about the affair so they could schedule their work hours around the party too. Most of the showers would be given a go signal to hold it in the office, as long as the management is also invited, which they mostly are.
Once the go signal is given, it should not just be one person doing everything, as this is an office activity, albeit after office hours, the other workers should also have some tasks to pull a successful party. So one could be given the task of ordering the cake, the others the drinks, the others the gifts, etc. All for the surprise of the mommy to be.
Some co-workers would like to bring their own food; some would like to order the food. This should be welcomed by everyone as this would also be a chance to open up to the colleagues and to flaunt their cooking skills. This way everyone can sample the home cooked goodness that they miss out of every day, unless the worker does not cook and simply orders the food.
There is always a set budget in a work baby shower. Everyone pitches in and if there is anything spent over and above the budget, it should be discussed among the members, but never with the new mother.
Discuss with the rest on what gift to give, is it going to be an individually brought gift or will there be a budget to buy one good really important gift that the new mother will not only use but would need once the baby arrives. If everyone pitches in, even if it is only one, the mother would appreciate it more.
Usually decorations would be relegated to balloons a streamers and sometimes those party poppers that make noise. Whatever the decorations are, they should be in the theme of welcome.
Finally, as the work baby shower was made after work hours, it would be best for everyone to clean up after their own mess and not leave the janitorial service.
