Having a baby shower after the mother has given birth has become a growing practice in these times. Normally, a baby shower occurs 4-6 weeks prior to delivery. At this point, female friends and female family members of the mother are gathering up people to map out the baby bash. In contrast, the post-delivery baby shower usually happens a month after the delivery. Sometimes, this is much better because the people who organized the gathering will be able to give more meaningful gifts. They will no longer have to guess about gender-based presents and they will have more intimate time with the parents to see what the couple and baby really need. One of the problems with baby showers before birth is that people tend to give standard gifts that at times, seem to duplicate. Mothers get too many bibs, baby bottles, diapers, and socks. If participants of the shower get to see the baby, they can get personalized gifts. Some of the bibs they can get are customized according to gender and the physical appearance of the baby.
Another advantageous side of having the baby shower after delivery is that it would benefit the parents of the baby, particularly the mother. The traditional baby shower lasts for about 2-3 hours. The mother usually leaves early because of her condition. The games, the activities, and the rest of the program need to be in congruent with the mother’s demand and situation. Remember, the mother is already on her 30th-32nd week, and the big bump on her tummy is tiresome for her. So long conversations and relatively strenuous games can be draining. If the shower will be held post-delivery, the mother can have more real fun. She can participate in more games as well as the usual round robin talks, card games, and other activities. Activities and games can involve more action. The party can extend for more hours and everyone will definitely have a better time. Everyone, including the mother, of course, can talk, eat, and be merry for the rest of the night. Plus, you do not have to worry about adding stress to the mother that can risk her state of pregnancy.
However, some people think that post-delivery baby showers are mostly concerned about the baby and no longer the mother. Once they see those heaven sent angels being nursed by the parents, the mother seems to be insignificant. This is a misconception. Mothers are more engaged in long talks since the baby has been delivered. She gets asked more about the process of delivery and also gets a lot of comments about her baby. Post-delivery baby showers allows deeper conversations about motherhood.
Many would definitely insist that the pre-delivery baby shower still embodies the long old tradition of surprise, expectations, and anticipation. They claim that people should experience the so-called ‘baby jitters’ but remember that it is also very much acceptable to throw the shower after the baby is born. Ultimately, it is up to the mom-to-be, but the advantages of a post-delivery shower should definitely be considered.
