Fifty years ago it would have been curious if a baby shower were to be thrown in an office, now it is a common activity with the millions of women who work every day. There are probably more women now who man the offices than there are men and it is no longer frowned upon that pregnant women continued working. Today, a pregnant woman can work until the last minute and get back to work in as little as two or three weeks after giving birth. Throwing a baby shower in the office is now considered normal.
Consider the woman who has worked in the office for several years, her husband and friends are most likely to be in the same office or at least in the same building or very near it. Her co-workers would find it fun to have a break and celebrate the coming of a new child and they may not be blood family, but they are family nonetheless. If they want to throw the party in the office to spare the traveling and extra expense they can do it, as long as the necessary administrative staff is informed before hand as well as the janitorial staff. In most likelihood, the administration would expect to join in the fun as well, so there really should be no problems.
It is also possible to have a surprise baby shower in the office, and this can be easily done if the mother-to-be is well liked by the other workers in other offices as well. The planning would be easier and she could just be lured in on the guise that there is a celebration going on another floor for someone or other. This way, if it is held in another office, she would be totally surprised and not just pretend surprised.
One thing to consider, can the daddy-to-be also be given a baby shower surprise if his wife or partner is not so well known in the office? The answer is still a resounding yes; it can still be done and has been done. The surprise could be doubled if someone were to bring in a surprised pregnant wife too.
The only question left is where and when should the baby shower be held. Generally, a baby shower is allowed during a break time so that leaves the lunch hour and just after the office hours end. The time is perfect for everyone as these are common times when everyone is free and if there is great food, a free lunch would be loved by everyone, so would a free dinner for that matter, even if the food are just snacks.
The party could actually be held in a board room, or a meeting area in the office, or even the office space itself, really depending on the planners and what the administration allows. Just make sure that the place is big enough for everyone and easily accessible. Of course, be sure to ask permission from the boss first.
