Breakfast is such a hassle, it is too early, people demand coffee first thing and if they can’t have it, they can get cranky. For an expectant mother, mornings, or rather breakfast can be a catastrophic time to celebrate, what with the morning sickness and all. But, if the day gets a little later, the day gets brighter and up close to lunch, brunch is a good way to celebrate.
Brunch is a very casual affair and it is sure that everyone who gets invited will look forward to the assortment of foods which they could enjoy in the company of friends and close family members. Inform the guests to arrive around 9:30 or 10:00 in the morning and to come in casual attire. There are no pretentions at this time and this is for relaxing.
Set off a buffet table off to one side of the venue and just place all the food there. The dessert cart, beverage bar and hot beverage bar should follow right after the buffet to make it easier for the guests to follow the flow of the arrangement. As this is casual, just stack dinner plates on one end of the buffet followed with the assortment of food and at the end a stack of table napkins. This way the guests could serve themselves keeping their hand free.
Set up some breakfast tables around the room. Cover the tables with white or light colored table cloth and place a centerpiece of fresh fruits for the guests to pick up and peal or cut up. There is no need for place cards because of the informality of the theme. One could always place some floral arrangements on some tables around the room and this could be done the day before. So, plan well ahead of time and pick up the floral arrangements a day before or afternoon before the brunch.
Set up the table with a specific flow to follow, do not just pack everything on top all at once with no logic. Start off with the appetizers, then the main courses, the salads, last breads, condiments, and dessert. Place the breads in baskets, the condiments in small square or round bowls. Provide serving spoons for the condiments.
On the beverage bar arrange an assortment of juices to choose from as well as just plain iced water and fresh milk. On another station, place hot coffee and hot tea with stacks of coffee cups or mugs, sugar and sweetening choices and cream.
Party favors should also be brunch themed so give away traditional ball bottles with fruit preserves and marmalades, or even a pack of homemade pancake premix with written instructions on how to cook for the guests to bring home with them. They would appreciate this more rather than go home with a pack of junk sweets. This way, they can eat with their breakfast or brunch what they brought home.
