Like any cloth, washcloths can be hand rolled into anything that you want it to be: roses, rosettes, bunnies even lollipops. Be creative and prepare that baby shower gift for your friend and present her with colorful washcloth lollipops.
Materials are easy to find: washcloths of different bright colors, double sided tape, clear or designed crisp cellophane wrappers, popsicle sticks, gold wires, scissors and safety pins.
Make the washcloth lollipops by folding in half lengthwise three times. Use a thin and long washcloth for this project. Roll like a jelly roll, secure with safety pin. Cover the tip of a popsicle stick and insert into the washcloth. Press to make the material stick to the sticky tape. Secure with clear rubber bands. Cut a square of the cellophane and place the head of the lollipop in the middle. Bring over the corners and edges of the cellophane to the neck of the lollipop and wind gold wire tightly. You could also cut a length of thin ribbon and make a bow.
Make several of these lollipops, about 24. Place in a uniquely shaped clear plastic canister and fill it up. Tie a ribbon around the rim of the container and secure a card with your well wishes and congratulations.
You can also present these lollipops as boo boo pops. Simply soak in water, drip dry and freeze. For children who are teething, they can chew on the towel and grind their gums without fear of eating on fingers of mommy and daddy. That may be several months in the future, but it is never too early to be prepared for the baby. What’s more, the mommy doesn’t have to go in a panic and think of ways to placate the sorrows of the baby. She can just grab the gift of several months ago and stop the tears.
You can also make candy washcloths by not using any lollipop sticks. Wrap rectangular cellophane around the roll of washcloth, secure with gold wire the cellophane close to both ends of the roll. Flare the remainder ends of the wrapper. Make at least a dozen of these and place in a white organic basket. Line the basket with two white washcloths, place the candies inside. Get full or uncut cellophane and wrap the basket with candies inside. Tie the neck with gold wire; wrap a wide ribbon to make a bow. Attach a nice card with your greetings and well wishes.
These towel candies can be placed in the bathroom for future use of the baby and putting them in a basket or plastic container will make it easier for the parents to just grab and use.
