Hello Kitty’s Hawaiian 1st Birthday Party

July 30th, 2010

When the mom is a Hello Kitty addict, chances are the daughter will turn out to be one, too. What then would be a better theme for this mother-daughter tandem than a Hello Kitty birthday party?

You can purchase Hello Kitty invites anywhere so they’re simple and practical to use. But, something more personal can be made using Hello Kitty images that are downloaded over the internet. Why not add another theme to the Hello Kitty image to make it a little more interesting? Why not create “Hello Kitty Vacation, Destination: Hawaii” as your theme?

Channel Hawaii in your Hello Kitty birthday party be using vibrant colors like hot pink, yellow, and turquoise. These, with white, will be the color scheme for your birthday party. Create balloon bouquets with your three colors and use white ribbon for the strings. Make a mix of round and heart-shaped balloons, just like in the Hello Kitty images. Find large pink vases or containers to anchor the balloons in and top them up with white sand or shells. Hang up streamers in the three colors and make bows from the three colors to accent the streamers. Hang up flower poms on the ceiling and spirals of white curling ribbon as accents. Place palm trees and tropical plants around the room. Tie a hot pink bow around the palm trees.

The kids’ table will have a Hawaiian feel with a balloon sculpture in the middle and an inflatable palm tree set in the center of that. Print the names of the major Hawaiian on card and stick them on the palm tree with directional arrows, making it a miniature signpost. Scatter some chocolate shells and hearts around the arrangement and some ribbon bows, too. Set each place with different colored tableware in your three colors. Tie everything together with a hot pink napkin cinched with a white ribbon.

The cake table is decorated in a different manner. Use a Hawaiian printed cloth and center the cake stand on that. Decorate the sides of the cake stand with flower leis and seashells.

Why not make a Hawaiian Wedding Cake for this birthday party? This cake made with coconut and macadamia nuts is frosted with cream cheese and served with a side of pineapple sauce. It’s a delicious dish that should have a large plush toy of Hello Kitty standing guard over it with dressed in a flower lei and a miniature grass skirt. You could accent the sides of the cake with fresh organic tropical flowers, if you like.

Hawaiian food is a must at this party but you may want to skip the poi! Small fried spring rolls, barbecued Kalua pork or Char Shiu pork from your favorite Chinese takeout, and toasted chicken adobo sandwiches are typical luau offerings. Chunks of tropical fruit can be accompanied by a yogurt dressing and a brown sugar dip. A special drink of a pineapple smoothie made with a plain yogurt, pineapple juice and ice garnished with a small kebab of tropical fruits and a pink bendy straw is a real treat.

Give each child a flower lei and a paper fan as a favor, along with Hello Kitty pencils and stickers. Sweet treats would be exotic flavored candy like mango and coconut.
