Mom Says “Bath Salts” Almost Killed Her Son

March 5th, 2011

Have you ever considered any alternative uses of ‘bath salts’? Not even ones? If this is the case, you probably have no idea that apart from something pleasant to soak in, ‘bath salts’ is the name of designer drugs. A mom from Treasure Valley can tell you all about her experience with such bath salts.

Bath salts came under attack when a bill was brought to the House of Judiciary and Rules Committee.

The chemicals used in the creation of such drugs have an effect similar to the one of methamphetamines, cocaine or ecstasy. Once the bill is accepted, such synthetic drugs will become illegal in Idaho.

The mom experienced the disaster of having bath salts in her life when her 19-year old son became addicted.

The teenager came close to death after snorting bath salts. “They’re deadly — they’re not a bath salt, you’re not going to sit and soak in them, that’s not their actual purpose,” the mom said as quoted in a report by ktvb.com.

Drug-related dangers that children are exposed to seem to be way too many for a parent to handle. The mom came home after a trip and found her son in an altered state of mind. She monitored his behavior and condition, which got worse within hour. The teenager confirmed that he was on bath salts.

The situation got so bad that the mom was forced to take her son to an emergency room. His body was no longer responding in a regular manner and his heart rate and blood pressure went beyond abnormal.

The boy remained in an intensive care unit for nearly three days.

Though the mom requested to remain anonymous, she decided to share her experience with other parents. Knowledge is the only way to introduce some sort of prevention when it comes to the availability of synthetic drugs.

“We would have never dreamed, never have dreamed that our son was going to be addicted to drugs and these have done, I mean even though he’s done other drugs before, these particular ones seem to have the strongest hold on him, these bath salts,” said the mom.

Once the teenager recovered fully, he started a treatment in a private clinic.
