Celebración de Ducha de Bebé: Baby Shower Fiesta

July 25th, 2010

A Hispanic baby shower means one thing: a fiesta or a celebration for a happy event.

Get some invitations with a Mexican or Latin theme: piñatas, sombreros, a desert cactus, or even a margarita print with fizzles and flying ribbons and streamers. If you can’t one, just get something online and print them on to a nice thick paper. Print out the details of the party, at the back, add whatever advice you can give to the invited on the kinds of gifts they should bring or the name of the place where the couple registered for the baby shower gifts. If it is not too much as the guests to come in costumes.

The decorations are fun to do and there are a lot to choose from. Remember one point, there is no “enough” when it comes to fiesta decorations, neither is there a “too much.” So let yourself go, grab anything that can make a place look colourful and fun. Hey, if it is a baby shower, why not make the piñata into the shape of a baby bottle or a pacifier. You can even have just inflated balloons filled with tiny paper cutups and candies inside. You can hang these from the ceiling and burst them when ready for the fun and games. Hang multi colored ‘anythings’ from the walls to the ceilings, hey even on the chairs.

Get some Mexican hats, sombreros, and place them behind each chair. The guests who sit on the chairs can bring them home. Hispanics like tapas, which are appetizers served in Latin bars. Place one on each table to occupy the guests. Get some old wine bottles and place a long stemmed flower that you like.

Don’t let the “garish” even enter your head when it comes to the decorating of the tables. The brighter the colors used for the tables, the better. Shock the eyes of the guests, which call to mind the word fiesta. Remember, nothing is ever too much.

Now for the food. Let the Wow factor come in and serve a sumptuous Hispanic meal: paella, roasted chicken, grilled pork, salsa, escaveche, empanadas, chorizo and jamon slices, slices of different cheeses like Queso de Manchego, roasted vegetables in olive oil topped with black olives and parmesan, serve some sumptuous salads with olive oil and balsamic vinegar dressings. Set some side dishes like tortillas and bite sized fajitas.

Serve strawberries and cream for dessert, add some fresh fruits cut up and served with light syrup with orange blossom or rose water to flavor, or simply serve some cooled fresh fruit compote. You can add a cake for dessert cut from the baby shower cakes set in the middle of the buffet table.

Give away festive baby shower give-aways like a small bottle of Agua de Bebe cologne which label has been covered with a sticker with the details of the baby shower on it. With a silver or gold ribbon, attach the Thank You card.
