Choosing the right food and drink for a baby shower is one of the great planning challenges for the hostess. While there are tons of websites that have great food suggestions, very few cater to the beverage side of things.
There are surely more beverage choices than just plain old water and the same old soda choices that you can offer your guests during the baby shower. These additional drink choices do not even have to be of the alcoholic variety. As a matter of fact, the usual drink of choice is punch and believe it or not, there are dozens of ways that you can spice this up without dumping in a ton of vodka.
It really is quite simple to do. Just mix your juice of choice for the base; you can choose orange, pineapple, cranberry and even mango and add some sherbet or some yummy ice cream. Then garnish it with some strawberry slices of other slices of citrus fruits. It could even be a centerpiece if you put it in a special table. Just remember to put it in a nice big bowl.
Say you want to keep it cold but refuse to put in ice as this will make it watery and sort of weak tasting; freeze your juice base and use that for ice. It does the job of keeping your punch cold magnificently. You may even add some fruits as it freezes to make it even more decorative.
If you do not like punch, however, you can go with the current drink of choice called the mama-tini. A play on the words Mama and martini; it is also a non alcoholic beverage. You can base the flavor of your mama-tini on what the future mom likes. You can come up with thousands of flavor combinations, each and everyone personalized for every baby shower.
If the future mommy is crazy about raspberries, you can mix 2 oz of raspberry nectar and the same amount of fizzy raspberry seltzer or maybe sparkling club soda. Pour the mixture in a cocktail glass with a teaspoon of syrup and pour in the raspberry liquid extra slow so that it does not mix with the syrup. Put a fruit garnish on the glass and you are good to go.
Perhaps the baby shower has a cute Hawaiian luau theme to it, just mix 1 1/2 oz of pineapple, passion fruit, lime juice together then shake. Pour this into a tall glass pre-filled with shaved ice. You can then put some grenadine on top of the drink to make a sort of pretty sunset effect to the drink. Garnish this with a paper umbrella.
It the season calls for creamier drinks, you may try this particular drink. You put melted chocolate all over the rim of a glass then allow it so cool and therefore set. Blend 2 oz of full cream milk plus 1 tbsp of coffee syrup, some coffee ice cream maybe and then 1 tbsp of crème de cacao which has no alcohol. This will come out as a super creamy beverage which you can then garnish with a sprig of mint.
Mama-tinis may be non-alcoholic, but they pack quite a punch at baby shower celebrations.
