When the wind and chill shows the beginnings of fall, all attention is focused on apples of various kinds, scents, and sizes that appear everywhere. It’s a great way to show everybody that the coming baby is also the “apple of my eye” when it concerns the mommy-to-be and daddy-to-be.
Keep the invitations of this baby shower as simple as the apples themselves. In fact, you could print out the details for the baby shower on a piece of card, cut it out, and punch a hole in the corner. Tie a pretty ribbon around the stem of a shiny apple and attach the card onto the apple. These invitation should be hand-delivered since the apples would spoil if they were mailed.
Stick to the typical apple colors – candy apple red, golden apple yellow, and that sour apple green. Keep everything that you need for décor and other goods you need for the tables in these colors and you’ll find that planning for this baby shower is as easy as apple pie. So, streamers, balloons, banners, and everything else should be in these three colors.
Use a red and white striped tablecloth for both the dining tables and the food table. In the center of the dining tables, set a glass pedestal on which you arrange toffee apples nestled in a cloud of lime green and yellow cotton candy. On each place setting, put a single red flower bloom, like a red sunflower, right in the middle of the plate.
For the food table, arrange a pyramid of apples on a ceramic dish and tuck in blooms in the spaces between the apples. Elevate the apples on a pedestal or a stack of bricks and put it right at the center of the table.
Display the food on ceramic platters in earthy colors, which can be prettied up with small and shiny apples tucked around the platters. Use different things to lift up the platters, either bricks or leather-bound books, which provide a wonderful textural contrast to the other materials on the table.
And why not have apples for this meal? A tarte Tatin is easy to prepare but looks absolutely spectacular, especially when served with a warm vanilla custard. Cranberry-apple muffins are another dessert that anyone would enjoy. But don’t fall for serving apple cider here. The different yet complementary flavors of fresh-brewed coffee and piping-hot tea are the perfect partners here.
You don’t need another cake with this sweet meal. You can make a disposable diaper cake instead, and decorate it with ribbons in apple colors then embellished with baby accessories in the same colors, too.
Why not play a variation on bobbing for apples at this baby shower? Hang apples from a ceiling beam and let the guests have an apple eating contest. What’s the catch? They can’t use their hands to hold the dangling apples!
Choose from “apple of my eye” themed favors for this baby shower. There are candles which are scented like apple pie and potpourri which has slices of dried apple in it, too. Why not give a packet of apple cider mix with whole spices? These are wonderful gifts to give.
Fall is a wonderful season in itself, as well as being a beautiful time to have an “apple of my eye” baby shower.
