Bugs and babies have a lot in common – they both are round, wiggle around a lot, and crawl. Of course the baby is definitely cuter, but there are a lot of people that find bugs cute, too. Why not have a bug theme for your baby shower? It’s sure to be one that a lot of people will find adorable.
Of course you can just use one bug as the theme, but why not have all of them at your party? It will be a bug collector’s dream and a perfect theme to have when the setting of the baby shower will be outdoors, either in a park or a garden. Stick to the “cute” bugs, though, like the ladybug, the butterfly, the cicada, the dragonfly, the caterpillar, and the honeybee.
The best background color for this baby shower would be a leaf green, of course. Then you can add all the colors that you want, based on the insects that you decide to use in this baby shower. The usual pinks, oranges, yellows, greens, and purples are great choices for the color scheme. You can easily create an invitation by printing out a background of grass leaves and adding on stickers or cutouts of your bugs of choice. Make sure to include all the important details for the celebration!
Decorations are easy – think plants and think green! Balloons in several shades of green can be bunched together in several areas. Embellish the balloons with stickers or stamps of various insects. Instead of the usual streamers, hang vines up and attach a few fake insects here and there on them.
Dress all the tables in green as well. After the leaf green tablecloths are on, create a centerpiece by putting a sheet of green moss on a piece of plastic to protect the cloth. Add a few dried branches that stick up from the moss and attach a few insects to the branches. Finish it off with a few loose blossoms. Make a cute napkin ring from a piece of wire and an artificial insect and set this in the center of each plate.
Be tongue in cheek and serve a vegetarian organic meal! A beautiful composed salad can look positively breathtaking in the center of the buffet table. Accompanied by artisanal breads and cheeses, a selection of fresh fruit juice and tisanes, and platters of fresh and dried fruits for dessert with nut-based cookies and cake slices, it’s a a slice of heaven, either for the humans or the bugs.
Why not add bowls of freshly popped popcorn, various assorted nuts, and seed crunch for nibbling? Nothing else is needed, unless you still want to add crostini and a delicious dip for variety. It’s vegetarian eating at its best and it’s doubtful that anyone would notice that there isn’t any meat!
Even if bugs are cute, there won’t be anybody that would refuse to accept a bottle of great-smelling, DEET-free insect repellant. Why not pair that with vegan sweets or prettily glazed fruits? Or, pack a perfect fruit in season in a handmade basket and pretty it up with an abaca ribbon bow finished off with a plastic ant glued onto it.
