How Do I Display My Baby Shower Favors and When Do I Give Them Out?

August 24th, 2010

Now that you’ve gotten everything ready for the baby shower, the only thing left to do is decide how and when to give out your baby shower favors. What can you do to make it look more interesting than a pile of gifts?

Baby shower favors are those little presents that are handed out to guests either during or after the baby shower to thank them for coming to the party. Are they essential to the celebration?

Not really. You aren’t supposed to give out baby showers, it’s not a mandatory thing. But, many people take it as a matter of course because it’s a wonderful way to thank the guests and give them a keepsake at the same time.

After all the trouble that’s been taken to pick out the perfect baby shower favors, it should follow that they should be displayed in a way that would show them off to their best advantage. Some hostesses just keep them in a box under a table until the shower is finished and then hand them out to the visitors. But there are better ideas for baby shower favor displays.

If it’s a formal baby shower, why not make the favors part of the table display? You can set them on the plates or at the top of the place setting so the guests could enjoy their gifts right away. They are a pretty way to decorate the table and add a really formal touch. You could also make the favors the centerpiece and have the guests deconstruct it after the baby shower is over.

Why not set the favors in several baskets around the party area? Decorate the baskets in an interesting way, maybe by lining the baskets with scarves or ribbons that are in the color scheme of the baby shower. An unusual thing to do would be to set the favors in flats of wheat grass that will be put on tables around the room. You could also use other things to line the baskets like flower petals, potpourri, or dyed excelsior. Since the favors are scattered around the area, the guests can just pick their choice of favors themselves.

What if you are handing out favors such as cookie pops or handmade lollipops? Why not arrange them like a bouquet and set them in a metal pail filled with floral foam to make them stand upright then cover the foam with either moss or shredded paper? With a flaglet that says “Pick One!” stuck into the bucket as well, your guests can take a tip and take a favor for themselves.

Mass the baby shower favors together to create a statement. It’s the best way to appreciate the beautifully wrapped gifts that will make any guest sit up and take notice. What a wonderful way for you to express your thanks towards all your visitors for making your day perfect.

Make sure that every guest has a favor before they depart and couple it with an earnest and sincere proffering of thanks as your baby shower comes to an end.
