Celebrate Your Bebe with a Paris Birthday Party Theme

July 31st, 2010

If you adore France and everything French, the perfect birthday theme to choose is the Paris birthday party. Take the chance, since your child still has no say over the theme of her party!

Take your guests on a virtual trip to Paris starting with your invitations. Wouldn’t a little baby waving the French flag be just terrific? What about one of the Eiffel Tower all lighted up at night? Look for an image that is not copyrighted and use that as the cover of your invitation. Write down the party details inside and start planning your trip with the guests.

A great and easy theme is to decorate your son’s Paris birthday party in the patriotic colors of red, white, and blue. Start off with balloons in these colors and use ribbons in these black to really give it that Gallic feel. Hang paper pompoms from the ceiling in red, white, and blue. Why not arrange them in the form of the French flag? Suspend balloon pinatas at the corners of the flag shape to be popped near the end of the party. And replace the usual streamers with ribbons in these three colors. Set up some Paris-themed posters, too.

Cover the children’s table in a blue cloth and toss on table scarves of red and white. Place three glass cube vases on the center of the table and fill one with red carnations, one with white daisies, and the last with blue hydrangeas. Use blue plates and utensils for every place, and add a red napkin to accent, and tie each one with a white ribbon.

Cover the cake’s display table with a blue cloth as well, and top with a red table scarf. Center the cake stand on the table and decorate it with a white ribbon. You could place cupcakes covered with red, white, and blue striped frosting around the cake stand.

The best French food is simple, so stick to that for this Paris birthday party. Set a sandwich platter with small Croque Monsieurs (pan-grilled ham and cheese sandwiches) and Tartine au Cacao (crusty bread spread with cream cheese or crème fraiche and sprinkled with cocoa powder) for your hungry guests. Sliced Cheddar cheese and chunks of Parmesan are paired with fragrant honey on one side of a platter and with chunks of fruit such as pears, figs, and apricots on the other.

Counter that simplicity with a jaw-dropping cake. Create a simple, three-tiered cake swathed in white frosting that has its first tier covered with blue MMs, the second with mini marshmallows, and the third with red MMs. And also, place a fat birthday candle on the top tier. Always remember that it doesn’t have to be huge to make a big statement.

As for favors, hand each child a “Paris bag” with black berets and red, white, and blue bandannas for everyone, fake moustaches for the boys, and paper fans for the girls. Add a small bag of chocolate donut truffles to that!
