What is a child without a toy, which is like saying going through life without eating and breathing? Toys make the children play and laugh and learn from it. Jumpstart a baby’s toy collection by throwing a toy baby shower.
A simple but humorous invitation could be sent out to the waiting guests and family. On the face of the invitation itself, why not print out a baby hugging a favorite doll or bear, or simply having fun playing with educational blocks. As the guests to bring toy gifts for the baby by making suggestions on what type of toy the mother was more inclined for.
If the mother has agreed to a toy theme, the decorations for the party should reflect the toys. Stuffed toys, rubber duckies in a bath tub could already be brought home by the mother after the party. If the baby is a boy, a nautical theme with sailboats and navy baby clothes would set off the mood perfectly.
The centerpiece could just as easily be made by placing a giant bowl filled with water and a rubber ducky or two floating in it or it could be a sailboat too. Add contrast by dusting the table with colored sand and some sea shells to complete the scene.
Individual tables could also be decorated similarly but with smaller fish bowls and smaller ducks. Place lily pad shaped placemats to place the plated on top of. Add some more of the colored sand and place crystal rocks and sea shells to complete it. Table napkins could even be folded to look like scalloped shells.
Keep the food simple by offering some hors d’oeurves or canapés which can be shaped as ducks and boats. Offer some cool sandwiches that are easy on the digestion and some cakes or muffins iced with cool colors of the beach. Serve blue punch instead of the usual red or yellow and it won’t hurt if a boat were sailing in it either.
How about a nice cake shaped like a duck? The flavor will have to be the choice of the mommy to be. All big and yellow complete with a nice quacking sound when it is ready to be sliced. It can be set on a tall tray with several other duckies. Add some candies shaped like shells and rock sugar too. Drizzle colored sugar to sweeten the scene.
Think about a game of Aquatic Jeopardy. The guests can each receive a whistle and join the game just like Jeopardy is played but all questions are aquatic in nature. The guest who blows the whistle first gets to answer the question with a “What is a …”
For party favors, why not choose a clear plastic pouch and fill it with the same candies that decorated the table. Add some candy eggs, peeps, a small towel and glycerin soap shaped like ducks and boats.
